“For years I raised miniature donkeys on my acreage and loved every minute of it. One stud and three mares gave me many foals and Ruby was one of them. With her bluish‑grey coat, black nose, mane and tail, and saucy little personality, Ruby was a true beauty and the perfect star for a whimsical miniature donkey painting.

I often imagined a children’s book series about the trials and joys of donkey life on the farm, with this painting as one of the stories. In this one, Rudolph is injured, and Santa comes to ask Ruby’s mom if Ruby can save Christmas by leading his sleigh.”
